Updated weekly - webinars, agent toolkits, e-learning - it's all on the HMRC website
HMRC is continuing to deliver valuable online support over the coming weeks under its Agent Talking Points series. The webinars are easy to join, and there are opportunities for participants to ask plenty of questions.
From filing a tax return online, to organising business expenses, HMRC have got it covered with an extensive range of specially selected webinars.
The September 2017 webinars listed below are now completed but it is possible to view a recording - you can watch the recordings here.
Note: there was also one webinar on 26 September with The Pensions Regulator to talk about duties for new employers after 1 October this year.
Option to Tax - The once and done approach: A general overview of option to tax, explaining who can notify, how and when you can do it.

Tax Codes and how they have changed: This meeting will explain how we have changed the way we use information to calculate tax codes. It will include how estimated pay, third party information and RTI data, is influencing codes. We will also cover coding rules and the new In Year Adjustment.

Changes to Inheritance Tax: Providing an overview of recent changes to Inheritance Tax, including Residence Nil Rate Band and Transferrable Nil Rate Band.

The new Trusts Registration Service: This will explain how to register a new trust and how to update the registered information for existing trusts.

HMRC also has a Trusts & Estates toolkit to assist you with completing Trust and Estate tax returns. Different rules apply to the different types of trust, which can make a significant difference to the tax charge.

Cyber Security & HM Government’s Cyber Aware Campaign – ‘Keeping Secure Online’: Covering some of the basic and simple things you can do to keep yourself, your business and clients secure online, both at work and at home. It will introduce the Cyber Aware campaign, an overview of the threat and the UK Government and law enforcement’s wider work in this space.

Making Tax Digital for business (MTDfb) – the basics: Providing an overview of the basics of MTDfb it will include the latest information about the new phased approach - giving businesses and agents plenty of time to adapt to the changes. This is a very popular subject so we are running meetings over two days.

Basis Periods - looking at commencement years, changes to accounting date and overlapping periods: Focusing on basis periods, a subject that’s prominent around the self-assessment peaks. We will look at the different rules that apply to commencement years, the effect on a basis period when there is a change of accounting date and overlapping periods.

HMRC Talking Points - Automatic enrolment duties for new employers
Tuesday, 26 September 2017 1-2pm
If your client becomes an employer for the first time on or after 1 October 2017, they will immediately have legal duties for their new member of staff. Automatic enrolment duties apply from the first day the first member of staff started working for your client. This is known as their duties start date and in this Talking Points HMRC will take you through what these duties are. Followed by a Q&A.
